2019 LEC Summer Finals peaked at 840k+ viewers

The 2019 LEC Summer Split Playoffs began on Aug 23 and ended this past weekend. The top six teams from the Summer Regular Season participated in best of five matches. This first iteration of the European League of Legends franchised league had its 2019 LEC Summer Finals event hosted at the Nikos Galis Olympic Indoor Hall in Greece.

With a prize pool of €200,000 and the qualification slot to go to the 2019 Worlds Main Event, the participating competitors put up a spectacular performance. What was even more astonishing was the fact that over 840,000 viewers showed up for the final match between G2 Esports and Fnatic.

2019 LEC Summer Finals

The information provided by Esports Charts shows that this event is one of the most-watched European League of Legends events. The peak viewership included over 600,000 English viewers, whereas there were a total of almost 660,000 total viewers on Twitch. Additional viewers were from other platforms like the League of Legends YouTube stream.

A lot of the viewership also came from other non-official Twitch streams that had commentary by popular personalities. Some channels also included the 2019 LEC Summer Finals stream in different languages. In other statistics, there were a total of over 22 million hours watched over the entirety of the event. The average viewership was just above 170,000 viewers.

Two of the most popular events during the Summer Split Playoffs occurred between G2 Esports and fellow, rival team Fnatic. The third was between Fnatic and FC Schalke 04, where the latter was swept in a 3 – 0 match.

2019 World Championships

There is a chance that the viewership is even higher than reported, though, because the statistics were only derived from a specific number of platforms. This mainly includes Twitch and Youtube, but viewers also watched via Facebook, Russian social media platform VK, and South Korean content service platform Naver TV. This report didn’t include platforms from those like China, though, where esports viewership is one of the highest.

The 2018 World Championships broke the record in 2018 for most popular event. It had over 1.9 million peak viewers and 78.8 million hours watched.
